The CEO Perks That Reveal More Than a Salary Slip (2026 Guide)

The CEO Perks That Reveal More Than a Salary Slip

Every year, companies debate executive compensation.

Most of the conversation revolves around salaries, bonuses and stock options.

But this chart made me pause because it focuses on something we rarely discuss—executive perks.

Among S&P 1500 companies, the largest executive benefits aren’t luxury vacations or expensive gifts. They’re far more strategic.

Financial planning and support services are valuable CEO perks beyond salary

Nearly 30% of executive perks are related to personal security, followed by personal aircraft use (19.5%) and relocation and expatriate support (22.1%). Financial planning, transportation, health benefits and lifestyle memberships make up the remaining share.

At first glance, it looks excessive.

But look deeper.

The role of a CEO today is dramatically different from what it was a decade ago.

A single public statement can move billions in market value

Executives are increasingly vulnerable to cyber threats, physical security risks, activist campaigns and even AI-powered impersonation. Personal security isn’t just a luxury anymore—it’s becoming part of corporate risk management.

Private aircraft often receive criticism too. But for global CEOs managing multiple countries, factories and investor meetings across continents, time is often their scarcest resource. The conversation shouldn’t simply be about cost. It should be about return on executive productivity.

What interested me even more was what isn’t dominating the list.

Health and wellness account for just over 4%.

Memberships and lifestyle benefits barely cross 2%.

Product discounts are almost non-existent.

In other words, companies appear to be spending less on luxury and more on enabling executives to perform their jobs safely and efficiently.

A Lesson for Every Business Owner

For founders and business owners, there’s another lesson here.

Compensation isn’t just about money.

The best organizations think in terms of support systems.

Executive security is one of the most common CEO perks at large companies.

That support might include:

  • Executive coaching
  • Financial planning
  • Cybersecurity protection
  • Relocation assistance
  • Personal security
  • Administrative support

Whether it’s executive coaching, financial planning, relocation assistance, cybersecurity or personal security, these benefits reduce distractions so leaders can focus on creating value.

The Future of Executive Compensation

As businesses become more global and leadership becomes increasingly public, executive compensation is likely to continue evolving.

Support services may become just as important as financial rewards.

Organizations are beginning to recognize that protecting and enabling leadership isn’t simply an employee benefit.

It’s a strategic investment.

My Take

As businesses become more global and leadership becomes more public, I believe executive compensation will increasingly include services rather than just salaries.

The future of leadership won’t be measured only by what CEOs earn.

It will also be measured by how well organizations protect, support and enable the people making their biggest decisions.
